Our national eCommerce client faced a regular challenge during the lead up to Black Friday. During the notorious shopping holiday, they knew they’d need a drastic increase of warehouse workers to keep up with demand.

To be sure they were ready, our client needed temporary workers who were already onboarded and trained. Historically, in the 3 to 4 weeks ahead of Black Friday, our client struggled to retain those workers, so we worked to identify the cause of the turnover before the 2021 holiday season.

Employee turnover: 2020 17.8%; 2021 10%

Temp associates hired after peak: 2020 56; 2021 89

When our Adecco team spoke with workers, they reported leaving to take jobs offering full-time schedules. In the lead up to Black Friday, our client only needed them onsite about 20 hours each week, and workers just couldn’t afford to earn a part-time paycheck for that long.

Our team decided to implement an hours-guaranteed program, ensuring that associates would be paid for 32 hours, no matter how many shifts they were needed each week. Not only did this improve turnover, but the program also helped us attract top talent in the area.

During the 2021 ramp season: 119% Fulfillment; 982 New hires

The program was such a success in 2021 that our client has committed to the program for a second year.

During peak hiring, addressing challenges is critical to an organization’s year-round success, and at Adecco, we specialize in innovative HR solutions.
