The full story

Our client, a national ecommerce giant, faced recruiting and retention challenges leading up to Black Friday, their busiest time of the year.

Every year, they knew they’d need a drastic increase of warehouse workers to keep up with demand, but historically, in the 3 to 4 weeks ahead of the notorious shopping holiday, our client struggled to retain those workers.

As their staffing partner, we needed to address the turnover and find the root cause.

119% fulfillment rate; 7.8% turnover reduction; 982 new hires

When our Adecco team spoke with workers, associates said they were leaving for other roles, ones offering more hours ahead of the holiday season. In the lead up to Black Friday, our client only needed them onsite about 20 hours each week, and workers just couldn’t afford to earn a part-time paycheck for that long.

That’s why we implemented an hours-guaranteed program, so associates knew they’d be paid for 32 hours, no matter how many shifts they worked each week.

With the hours-guarantee program, associates were incentivized to stay on assignment rather than find another job. It also helped us ensure our client has temporary workers who are onboarded, trained, and ready for the busy season.

63% increase in hires after peak:Due to the increased attraction to our client’s roles, 89 associates were hired as Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees after peak season, 33 more than the previous year.

Lastly, the program helped us attract top talent in the area to exceed our client’s hiring goals. The program was such a success that our client has committed to the program for a second year.
