QC Scientist I – Microbiology & Bioanalytical Testing

Position Overview

The QC Scientist I will support pharmaceutical manufacturing operations through microbiological and bioanalytical quality control testing designed to help ensure the safety, quality, and efficacy of pharmaceutical products.

Working within a regulated GMP/cGMP laboratory environment, this position will perform testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and stability samples and accurately document laboratory data used to support product release and quality decisions.

Testing may include sterility, bacterial endotoxin, particulate matter, membrane filtration, Total Organic Carbon (TOC), and conductivity.

This opportunity is well suited for a Bachelor's-level Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related science graduate who is interested in building hands-on experience in pharmaceutical quality control.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform microbiological and bioanalytical testing to support pharmaceutical manufacturing and product release.

• Conduct testing that may include:

  • Sterility testing

  • Bacterial endotoxin testing

  • Particulate matter

  • Membrane filtration

  • Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

  • Conductivity

• Generate accurate and reliable laboratory data in accordance with established procedures.

• Document testing procedures, observations, calculations, and results in laboratory notebooks and applicable electronic systems.

• Compare laboratory results with established specifications and acceptance criteria.

• Recognize and communicate unexpected or potentially out-of-specification results.

• Work with Quality Assurance and management to determine appropriate next steps, including repeat testing or OOS activities when applicable.

• Maintain laboratory equipment and report equipment issues or abnormalities to the appropriate supervisor.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

• Complete assigned testing activities according to established schedules and target dates.

• Follow all applicable SOPs, GMP, GLP, safety, and data-integrity requirements.

• Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and other functional teams to solve problems and improve laboratory efficiency.

• Maintain required training and compliance qualifications.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.

• Preferred fields of study include:

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Biochemistry

  • Microbiology

  • Or another closely related scientific discipline

• No prior professional experience required.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established laboratory procedures.

• Ability to accurately document laboratory activities and maintain data integrity.

• Strong scientific problem-solving skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.

• Ability to work independently and effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Experience

Experience or academic exposure to:

• Microbiological testing

• Microbial identification

• Environmental monitoring

• Aseptic techniques

• Sterility testing

• Endotoxin testing

• Pharmaceutical or biotechnology laboratory environments

• GMP/cGMP-regulated environments

• Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

• Cleanroom laboratory practices

Pharmaceutical or regulated laboratory experience is preferred but not required.

Physical & Work Environment

This is a fully onsite laboratory position.

Candidates should be comfortable with:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.

• Periodic stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.

• Lifting and moving laboratory materials weighing approximately 10–35 pounds, with the position potentially requiring lifting up to 50 pounds.

• Performing tasks requiring manual dexterity.

• Working at a computer and reviewing technical documentation for extended periods.

• Working in cleanroom environments.

• Following strict contamination-control and laboratory safety procedures.

Required PPE

PPE may include:

• Safety glasses

• Safety shoes

• Laboratory coat

• Nitrile or similar gloves

• Safety apron

• Occasional respiratory protection

Contract Opportunity

This position is offered as a contract assignment through June 2027, with the potential for extension and/or consideration for additional opportunities based on business needs, performance, and available openings.

Pay Details: $25.00 to $27.00 per hour
