Position Summary
The School Improvement Council Program Coordinator will support the South Carolina School Improvement Council in strengthening the effectiveness, compliance, and engagement of local School Improvement Councils across the state. This position will work closely with school districts, principals, SIC chairs, school and district representatives, university partners, and other stakeholders to provide guidance, training, technical assistance, and program support.
The ideal candidate is an organized, professional, and collaborative individual with strong communication, project coordination, research, and presentation skills. This role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, and work independently while supporting statewide initiatives.
Travel to school districts and schools throughout South Carolina is required. Some travel may include overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities
School Improvement Council Compliance
- Assess compliance of local School Improvement Councils with applicable South Carolina statutory requirements, SC SIC policies, and guidance.
- Monitor and support district and school level SIC compliance activities.
- Communicate with district contacts, principals, SIC chairs, and other school or district representatives to provide guidance, answer questions, and support timely completion of compliance related activities.
- Provide technical assistance and follow up to help schools and districts meet program requirements.
Conference and Training Support
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of the annual SC SIC conference and other professional learning events.
- Facilitate or support workshops, training sessions, webinars, and technical assistance opportunities for SIC members, principals, district contacts, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with developing and refining training materials, presentations, handouts, and follow up resources.
- Participate in in person and virtual events throughout the state.
Awards and Recognition
- Coordinate the annual SIC awards and recognition process.
- Support the identification, review, and recognition of exemplary local SICs and promising practices.
- Assist with communications and event coordination related to awards and recognition activities.
Carolina Family Engagement Center Support
- Support collaboration between SC SIC and the Carolina Family Engagement Center on shared family engagement priorities.
- Assist with identifying grants and alternative funding opportunities that support program sustainability.
- Conduct observations and implementation monitoring activities at partner schools.
- Provide support for meetings, workshops, events, and initiatives related to family engagement, school improvement, and stakeholder participation.
Strategic Planning and Program Coordination
- Assist with coordinating strategic planning activities, including reviewing data and stakeholder input to inform annual goals and priorities.
- Assist with annual reporting and program documentation.
- Monitor progress toward strategic goals and identify opportunities to improve services, communications, and statewide impact.
- Provide research, writing, coordination, and project management support for emerging priorities.
General Department and Organizational Support
- Attend and participate in Board of Trustees meetings, SIC Advisory Council meetings, staff meetings, planning sessions, and other organizational meetings as requested.
- Collaborate with SC SIC staff, university partners, advisory members, school and district leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Assist with reviewing, revising, and developing SIC resources, publications, templates, guidance documents, and communication materials.
- Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by SC School Improvement Council leadership.
- Contribute to a collaborative, responsive, and service oriented approach to strengthening local School Improvement Councils statewide.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, communications, organizational leadership, social sciences, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with schools, school districts, educational organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, or community based organizations preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, presentations, and professional learning activities.
- Ability to analyze information, conduct research, and prepare reports and written materials.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common virtual meeting and collaboration platforms.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout South Carolina, including occasional overnight travel.

The ideal candidate is a relationship oriented professional who is comfortable working with school and district leaders, facilitating conversations, presenting information, coordinating statewide initiatives, and managing projects from planning through completion. The candidate should demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, professionalism, and a genuine interest in supporting schools, families, and communities across South Carolina.
Work Environment
This position involves a combination of office, virtual, and field based work. Regular travel to school districts, schools, meetings, conferences, and training events throughout South Carolina is required. Some travel may require overnight stays.
Pay Details: $30.00 to $31.78 per hour
