About the Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on Lead AV/IT Installation Technician to oversee the installation and integration of advanced audiovisual, information technology, and simulation systems at customer locations nationwide and internationally.
This role is ideal for an experienced AV or technology installation professional who can lead technicians and subcontractors, troubleshoot complex systems, maintain high installation standards, and keep projects moving forward. You will serve as the primary on-site technical lead, balancing hands-on installation work with team coordination, quality assurance, customer communication, and project execution.
The successful candidate is organized, technically strong, comfortable making decisions in the field, and able to hold installation teams accountable for safe, high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Leadership & Project Coordination
  • Lead the installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of AV, IT, and simulation technology systems.
  • Coordinate daily activities for installation technicians, subcontractors, and other trades on-site.
  • Review project drawings, scopes of work, schedules, and installation requirements before work begins.
  • Develop daily work plans, assign tasks, monitor progress, and adjust priorities to maintain project schedules.
  • Verify subcontractors have the appropriate personnel, tools, materials, and qualifications to complete assigned work.
  • Identify and escalate project risks, including site-readiness issues, equipment shortages, design conflicts, scope changes, and schedule delays.
Quality Assurance & Accountability
  • Inspect installation work to ensure compliance with project specifications, technical documentation, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Identify incomplete or unacceptable work and coordinate corrective actions with subcontractors.
  • Monitor workmanship, productivity, and installation progress while holding field teams accountable for results.
  • Lead system testing, commissioning, quality reviews, punch-list completion, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional job site.
Technical Installation & Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot integrated AV/IT systems, networking infrastructure, control systems, and audio digital signal processing (DSP) equipment.
  • Work with low-voltage cabling, cable termination, labeling, testing, rack builds, and equipment integration.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical schematics, architectural drawings, rack elevations, and system design documentation.
  • Perform hands-on installation and technical support alongside the team when needed.
  • Coordinate with customer IT teams, project managers, engineering, operations, and technical support to resolve installation challenges.
Customer Communication & Documentation
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for customers, contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Communicate project status, technical concerns, schedule risks, and corrective actions professionally.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, installation updates, redlined drawings, test results, punch lists, and project closeout records.
  • Track equipment, serial numbers, shipping and receiving, inventory discrepancies, and return merchandise authorization (RMA) activities.
  • Coach and mentor installation technicians, providing technical guidance and supporting skill development.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of experience installing and integrating audiovisual, low-voltage, IT, or related technology systems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technicians and subcontractors on commercial installation projects.
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades while maintaining project schedules, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Ability to assign work, monitor productivity, address performance concerns, and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across AV, networking, control systems, audio, and integrated technologies.
  • Proficiency in low-voltage cabling, termination, labeling, testing, cable management, and system integration.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, networking, and enterprise technology environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, and scopes of work.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and remain professional under schedule pressure or changing site conditions.
  • Experience with project management or work-tracking platforms such as Asana or Monday.com is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Valid passport or ability to obtain one; willingness to travel up to 60%, including international travel and extended assignments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances for government, healthcare, education, and other secure customer locations.
Preferred Technical Experience
  • Crestron control systems.
  • Biamp audio DSP systems and configuration.
  • AV/IT systems integration and commissioning.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of interconnected audiovisual and networked systems.
Travel Requirements
This position requires travel of up to 60%, including domestic and international assignments. Candidates should be comfortable with extended time away from home, working at customer sites, and coordinating installations in a variety of environments.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, speak, listen, and use hands frequently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work with installation tools and equipment and perform tasks requiring close vision, color vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
  • Work environments may include customer facilities, active construction or installation sites, and technical equipment rooms. Noise levels are generally moderate.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
This is an opportunity for an experienced installation professional to take ownership of field execution—not simply complete assigned technical tasks. You will help lead teams, coordinate subcontractors, solve technical challenges, maintain quality standards, and ensure customers receive a fully tested and functioning solution.
