Certified Medical Assistant

We are seeking a qualified and patient-focused Certified Medical Assistant to support clinical operations at an Optum ambulatory care clinic in Laguna Niguel, California. The ideal candidate will have a Medical Assistant certificate, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and phlebotomy experience. This role supports providers and licensed clinical team members by assisting with patient care, clinical procedures, prescription refill coordination, documentation, and daily clinic operations.

Pay Rate: $24.34 per hour
Employment Type: Temporary Contract – Minimum of 6-months+
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

• Perform clinical procedures under the supervision of a provider and meet ambulatory Medical Assistant clinical competencies.

• Follow established protocols for prescription refills and medication prior authorizations.

• Support patient flow and follow standardized patient care processes.

• Keep examination rooms stocked with appropriate supplies and ensure equipment, logs, and required checks are maintained.

• Ensure patient information is available and accurate in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Implement orders as directed by providers and licensed care team members.

• Complete patient documentation accurately and promptly, reflecting the patient’s plan of care.

• Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinic policies.

• Follow established procedures for compliance concerns, incident reporting, and other required documentation.

• Collaborate with centralized services and clinical staff to address patient needs.

• Maintain current clinical knowledge and continue developing skills relevant to ambulatory care.

• Perform additional duties within the scope of training, knowledge, and abilities.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Assistant certificate.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Phlebotomy experience.

• Ability to perform clinical duties under provider supervision.

• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

• Knowledge of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a clinical environment.

• Willingness to float to other Optum clinics as needed.

Pay Details: $24.34 per hour
