Sample Management Technician

Location: Richmond, VA
Pay Rate: $18.50/hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Sample Management Technician to support laboratory operations by performing sample receipt, tracking, storage, inventory, and documentation activities. This role is responsible for ensuring samples and standards are handled according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulatory requirements, and quality standards while providing excellent support to laboratory staff in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, label, log, and track laboratory samples and standards.

  • Maintain accurate sample inventory and storage records throughout the sample lifecycle.

  • Transport samples within the laboratory while ensuring proper chain of custody and documentation.

  • Assist with sample check-in, check-out, storage, return, and disposal activities.

  • Communicate sample status and inventory updates to laboratory personnel.

  • Support laboratory staff by ensuring compliance with sample handling procedures and SOPs.

  • Complete deviation reports, investigations, and documentation as required.

  • Assist with identifying corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) for sample handling issues.

  • Review laboratory requests for completeness and compliance with established procedures.

  • Participate in training on SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and sample storage requirements.

  • Respond to environmental monitoring alarms and participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while meeting productivity and quality expectations.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory support, sample management, inventory control, or a related environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience following written procedures and maintaining accurate documentation.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or regulated environment.

  • Familiarity with laboratory documentation practices, sample storage requirements, and inventory systems.

  • Experience supporting quality systems or regulated processes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of inventory management and sample tracking principles.

  • Knowledge of laboratory documentation practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to follow and assist with developing or improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Commitment to accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment

  • Laboratory-based position supporting scientific operations.

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement of laboratory samples and materials.

  • May require lifting and transporting laboratory materials in accordance with safety guidelines.

  • Participation in rotating on-call responsibilities may be required.

Compensation

  • Location: Richmond, VA

  • Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour

Pay Details: $18.50 per hour
