Challenges and opportunities of the Asian labor market for Slovenian construction and public economy
October 9, 2023 - 12:00 AM
In cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, we organized an event titled "Capacity of the Asian Labor Market: Challenges and Opportunities for the Slovenian Construction and Municipal Economy?"
The event included presentations on the capacities of the Asian labor market, which could be used to fill significant workforce gaps in the Slovenian construction and municipal sectors that have emerged in recent years. We addressed questions about the skilled workers we can expect from this part of the world, how to bring them to Slovenia, and what role the state and the economy should play in this process.
After the opening remarks from the Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, the Director of Adecco Slovenia and Serbia, and the General Secretary of ZDS, we kicked off the event with the first speaker, Danijel Okilj, Head of the International Mobility Department at Adecco. Okilj highlighted the current labor market situation and discussed the widespread workforce crisis currently crippling Europe. Additionally, he presented upcoming changes in the foreign employment system in the coming months and shared interesting data, such as the fact that the share of foreign workers among all working-age residents in Slovenia is approximately 14%.
The next speaker, Ms. Maša Ravbar from Livar, presented the excellent practice of employing staff from India. She revealed how the company prepared for the arrival of foreign workers and emphasized the importance of openness and adaptability in this process.
Raaj Singh, Director of Takt Group London, shared key insights from his years of experience in employing Indians in the construction industry. He stressed the importance of understanding foreign cultures and collaborating with trusted business partners abroad.
At the end of the event, Tanja Križman Vezočnik, an advisor at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, presented the European project Digi-CVET, which plays a significant role in promoting the successful employment of qualified workers.
