About The Client
The University of Wolverhampton is a leading modern university with a tradition of providing opportunity and academic excellence dating back nearly 200 years. They offer over 250 undergraduate and 120 postgraduate courses, many of which are accredited by professional bodies.
The Challenge
In 2022, the University of Wolverhampton sought a new supplier for its Student Staff Employment Service. The aim was to facilitate short-term, project-based roles that would offer valuable, experiential learning for students and paid employment within the university campus.
These projects spanned various roles, including clearing assistance, library staffing, short-term administrative positions, and support for student hotlines throughout the academic year.
Each candidate would be chosen by a university selection panel, with the contract duration and salary determined by the university. Following this, the university needed a flexible recruitment provider to provide a reliable employment service for the selected candidates, including ongoing HR management and support.
Our Solution
Adecco supplies complete HR management to the university’s Student Staff Employment Service. As part of this service, we:
- Handle payroll administration, including payments, payslips, and financial advice relating to payroll and taxation.
- Provide account management, including contractual queries, right to work documentation, handling disputes or employee relations queries, and sickness and absence monitoring.
- Manage the verification and onboarding of international students, ensuring annual checks are carried out, and provide financial documentation on request for student and graduate VISA extensions.
- Ensure auditing and compliance with IR35 processes, including providing payslip copies, details of spot-checking student accounts, and maintaining adequate process flows and audit documentation.
Adecco has also implemented a comprehensive automated booking process, with monthly reporting to the university that includes student insights, spending data, and student placements. We also work with the client to optimise their invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
We are also aiming to run a series of innovative workshops in future to equip students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the competitive job market. By focusing on this crucial area of student employability, we strive to improve individual career prospects and elevate the university’s overall employability outcomes and ranking.
