Are you an experienced Enterprise Architect looking to shape the future of technology across government? The Government Property Agency is seeking a talented architecture professional to partner with business, strategy and policy stakeholders to demonstrate the value of Enterprise Architecture as an enabler of business change, technology innovation and strategic decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a broad technology landscape, helping to develop capability models, roadmaps and architectures that support the delivery of user-centred digital services and enhance the interoperability of the Government estate.


As part of the CTO function, you'll work alongside skilled engineers, architects and multidisciplinary delivery teams, leading analysis of future-state capabilities and technology environments to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. You'll have the opportunity to influence strategic technology decisions, contribute to the wider government architecture community and help shape the future direction of digital services across the GPA.


What You'll Do


As an Enterprise Architect, you will work across programmes and projects to understand business needs, define suitable technology strategies and ensure architectural decisions support long-term organisational objectives. You will provide leadership, guidance and assurance across a range of digital and technology initiatives while fostering collaboration between technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities




    • Working across programmes and projects to understand delivery needs and define suitable strategies, architectures and roadmaps to meet those needs.





    • Building and maintaining technical roadmaps, looking ahead to future opportunities and blockers while ensuring service teams align with strategic direction.





    • Advising on optimal architectures and ensuring projects follow appropriate assurance activities, methodologies and best-practice guidelines.





    • Anticipating and mitigating architecture challenges and risks across projects and programmes.





    • Defining and managing technical procurement requirements.





    • Contributing to the wider development and architecture community, sharing good practice and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.





    • Advising Service Owners on the technical implications and delivery effort associated with current and future work.





    • Helping to enable the reuse of patterns, tools and components, while supporting the maturity of the architecture profession through standards, guidance and knowledge sharing.

Experience & Technical Skills


Essential:




    • Experience working as a Technical, Solution, Business or Enterprise Architect (or equivalent), operating across a wide range of architectures, technologies and programming languages.





    • Experience working across varied technology domains including Business, Applications, Data, Infrastructure, Integration and Security.





    • Experience providing technology leadership in complex projects and programmes, with the ability to align technology strategies to long-term business objectives.





    • Experience suggesting and influencing good digital, software and data design.





    • Experience translating business problems into suitable architectures and designs, producing clear architecture artefacts underpinned by sound solution design principles.





    • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical concepts across both technical and non-technical audiences.





    • Ability to make effective decisions in complex environments and clearly articulate recommendations and outcomes.





    • Ability to resolve technical disputes between stakeholders while taking account of differing views and priorities.





    • Experience in cloud technologies, cloud strategies and architecting cloud-based solutions, alongside emerging technologies such as analytics, artificial intelligence, automation and connected technologies.




Desirable:




    • Technical knowledge across software design, development, engineering, integration, cloud-native services, infrastructure, applications, productivity tools and service design.





    • A background in software development or engineering, with the ability to influence good digital design practices.





    • Experience creating and designing data solutions and influencing data architecture decisions.





    • Experience writing thought leadership content, thematic papers or leading specialist discussions.





    • Experience of modern engineering practices such as DevOps, CI/CD and cloud-native platforms and services.





    • Experience of technical assurance within UK Government Service Assessments.




Qualifications & Accreditations


Desirable:




    • Architecture qualifications or certifications such as TOGAF or Business Architecture Guild certifications.





    • Experience of technical assurance within UK Government Service Assessments.
