For an innovative international technology organization, we are looking for a Senior Engineer AI-Native DevEco IDE & Agentic Developer Tooling to join a newly established research team in Amsterdam.

In this strategic role, you will help define the future of AI-powered development environments, drive technology exploration, and lead a team of highly experienced engineers and researchers. Your work will directly influence the next generation of developer tools and ecosystems used by software developers worldwide.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of an AI-native development platform and creating the developer experiences of tomorrow. Your responsibilities will include:

• Defining and driving the technical vision for AI-native IDEs and next-generation developer tooling.
• Researching and evaluating emerging technologies in developer tools, coding assistants, and agentic software development.
• Developing proof-of-concept solutions, prototypes, and demonstrations to validate innovative ideas.
• Producing technology scouting reports and strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders.
• Collaborating with universities, research institutions, startups, and industry experts within the developer-tools ecosystem.
• Building, mentoring, and leading a team of senior engineers and researchers.
• Translating research insights into practical product recommendations and future technology roadmaps.
• Working closely with international product and engineering teams to align innovation and business objectives.

• Gross yearly salary up to €12.000,- per month, depending on experience;

Success in this position requires three core strengths: Developer Tooling expertise, practical AI experience, and a proven track record of leading engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in IDE development, developer tools, or agentic engineering environments.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing engineers or researchers and guiding technical strategy.
• Strong understanding of developer experience (DX) and the factors that make development tools intuitive, effective, and scalable.
• Ability to bridge the gap between research and product development, translating complex technical concepts into strategic direction.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to Amsterdam.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interest in building world-class development tools for innovative software ecosystems.
• Experience with IDE platforms and architectures such as IntelliJ Platform, PSI, or Language Server Protocol (LSP).
• Knowledge of compiler toolchains, build systems, developer infrastructure, or software engineering frameworks.
• Practical experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI coding agents into development workflows.
• Experience with context engineering, agent orchestration, evaluation frameworks, or AI verification methods.
• Strong technical writing and analytical skills.
• Experience working in international and distributed teams.
• An active network within the developer tools, software engineering, AI, startup, or research community.
