Automation Engineer – Process Control (Oceania)

We’re seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to design, develop, and commission industrial process control solutions across my client’s projects in Oceania.

You’ll translate P&IDs and process requirements into functional designs and PLC/HMI/SCADA applications, while supporting projects from tender through to commissioning. This role also involves site work and contributing to digitalisation initiatives such as remote monitoring and advanced process control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop functional descriptions (IEC 848/Grafcet) and PLC programs
  • Design and implement HMI/SCADA systems
  • Support tendering, costing, and technical proposals
  • Deliver automation scope across project lifecycle (design to commissioning)
  • Provide site support, commissioning, and training
  • Troubleshoot and optimise process control systems
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and digitalisation initiatives
  • Travel as required across NZ, Australia, and internationally

About You

  • Degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, IT, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in industrial automation (food/dairy/beverage preferred)
  • Experience with PLCs (Rockwell, Schneider) and HMI/SCADA platforms
  • Knowledge of industrial networking (e.g., Ethernet/IP)
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Valid AU/NZ driver’s licence
