Adecco is currently hiring a Controller for a full-time permanent opportunity in Mississauga, ON. This role is ideal for an experienced CPA with a strong background in construction or general contracting who brings extensive expertise in project cost accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and operational finance.

In this position, you will serve as a key financial leader, partnering closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and senior leadership to strengthen profitability, financial controls, and operational decision-making. You will oversee the organization’s financial reporting and project accounting functions while driving improvements to systems, processes, and financial visibility across the business.

  • Salary: $130,000 - $140,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and quarterly financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of P&L, balance sheet, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and cash flow statements.

  • Oversee all project cost accounting activities, including budgeting, progress billings, holdbacks, and change orders.

  • Drive accuracy and accountability in Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasting and WIP reviews.

  • Partner with Project Managers, Estimators, operations teams, and leadership to strengthen forecasting, margin tracking, and financial decision-making.

  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and cash management while maintaining strong internal controls and process discipline.

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts, connecting project backlog and the bid pipeline to overall financial planning.

  • Take ownership of the Jonas Premier ERP system and identify opportunities to standardize data, automate reporting, and improve financial processes.

  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools that provide actionable financial and operational insights.

  • Ensure financial systems, reporting, and controls remain accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic business objectives.

  • Coach and mentor the finance team while promoting collaboration, professional development, accountability, and clear performance expectations.

  • Represent Finance within the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), ensuring scorecards, Rocks, and Issues Lists contribute to meaningful business results.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the financial and operational performance of the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work and reside in Canada.

  • CPA designation required, with CA, CGA, or CMA designation preferred.

  • 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience within construction or general contracting.

  • Strong experience with job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and revenue recognition.

  • Deep understanding of ASPE/GAAP accounting principles.

  • Strong knowledge of progress billing, change management, subcontractor compliance, and bonding and insurance requirements.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including Power Query and PivotTables.

  • Strong ERP systems experience; Jonas Premier experience is considered an asset.

  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and project accounting capabilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve financial systems, controls, reporting processes, and operational visibility.

  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to develop and support a high-performing finance team.

  • Collaborative and hands-on approach with the ability to partner effectively with operations, project teams, and senior leadership.

  • High level of integrity, accountability, and ownership.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain composed under pressure.
