About the Role
Škoda Group having its subsidiary Škoda Transtech oy in Finland, is strengthening its presence in Scandinavian, especially in Swedish rail market and is now looking for a Bid Engineering Manager – a strategically critical role with significant impact on business results, market development, and international project success.
As Bid Engineering Manager, you will lead the technical part of bid process for complex railway vehicle projects, from the initial pre-negotiations until final offer submission. You will be the central interface between engineering and commercial functions, ensuring that all offer documents are technically sound, commercially viable, compliant with standards and customer requirements and, delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
Bid engineering Leadership
- By utilizing technical professionals across the company, you ensure that the best technical knowledge is brought to the bid process.
- In customer meetings, you lead the technical part of the discussion, providing accurate and justified information to key technical questions.
- In collaboration with engineering managers and technical experts across Škoda Group, you prepare engineering work plans and estimations for bid projects.
- In bid projects, lead the multi-disciplinary engineering work in a very hands-on manner and guide the team towards high-quality and competitive technical solutions.
- Once you have recruited 2-4 bid engineers to support you, your role will also include team management and people leadership.
- Ensure compliance with technical requirements and safety regulations
- From technical perspective, deliver high-quality bids within strict deadlines
Cross-Functional Coordination
- In internal coordination and status meetings with manufacturing, finance, legal, procurement and sales, you represent Engineering
- In each bid project, lead and align contributions from approximately 30 engineers across multiple disciplines. Once you have recruited Bid specialists/ engineers in your team, this work can be shared up on your decision.
- Ensure accurate estimation of hours, costs, risks, and technical scope
- Act as the single point of accountability for the technical bid delivery
Over time, you will build and lead a team of Bid/Technical Specialists, preferably in Sweden, playing a key role in the company’s continued growth. The position involves close international collaboration with engineering teams in Finland and the Czech Republic, as well as regular interaction with headquarters and senior stakeholders. You will operate with a high level of autonomy while carrying significant responsibility, working closely with sales, procurement, engineering, and executive management. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape both the position itself and the associated processes within a growing organization.
Required Experience & Background
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering manager, or similar senior technical role
- Extended experience within bid management with proven experience of complex, international projects
- In order to guide and evaluate the competitiveness of technical solutions in trams, metros and trains, direct railway vehicle experience is highly preferred
- Swedish language skills at a high professional level are required
- End-to-end understanding of the process from tender to delivered project is beneficial
Technical & Commercial Skills
- Engineering background (technical / industrial)
- Deep understanding of bid processes and technical documentation
- Strong commercial mindset: cost calculations, margins, and risk management
- Advanced skills in MS Office, especially Excel
- Ability to lead complex technical teams under time pressure
- Experience with typical CAD and PLM, and project management tools
- Knowledge of railway standards and technical terminology
- Familiarity with EU public procurement regulations

Work Setup & Benefits
- Bonus: 15% of annual salary
- Hybrid work model: 40% office / 60% remote
- Location: Stockholm preferred. Other location in Sweden, also Finland, can be negotiated.
- Approximately one trip to Finland per month. More frequently during critical project phases
