Scientist III – Downstream Process Development (DSP/MSAT)

Adecco Healthcare & Life Sciences is hiring for a notable global biopharmaceutical organization known for developing innovative vaccines, biologics, and advanced manufacturing technologies in Swiftwater, PA.

Location: Swiftwater, PA
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite
Assignment Type: Contract
Pay Rate: Up to $80/hr
Hours: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST


Position Overview

Adecco Healthcare & Life Sciences is seeking an experienced Scientist III to join a Downstream Process Development (DSP) and Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) team supporting critical vaccine and biologics manufacturing programs.

This role will contribute to process optimization, yield improvement initiatives, manufacturing support, process characterization, and purification technology development. The successful candidate will independently execute downstream process development studies, analyze complex data sets, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and support strategic initiatives that improve process performance and product quality.

This position is ideal for scientists with strong protein purification expertise and hands-on experience with chromatography, filtration, scale-up activities, and process development in regulated pharmaceutical, biologics, vaccine, or biotechnology environments.


Key Responsibilities

Downstream Process Development

  • Execute process development studies supporting:

    • Yield improvement initiatives

    • Resin reuse evaluations

    • Process optimization programs

    • Column loading studies

    • Scale-up activities

    • Process characterization projects

  • Design and execute purification experiments independently while applying scientific judgment and technical expertise.

  • Support implementation of manufacturing process improvements and process robustness initiatives.

Protein Purification & Chromatography

  • Operate and optimize purification processes utilizing:

    • AKTA chromatography systems

    • Ion exchange chromatography

    • Affinity chromatography

    • Size exclusion chromatography

    • Clarification and depth filtration

    • Tangential flow filtration (TFF)

    • Column packing operations

  • Evaluate purification performance, product recovery, impurity removal, and process scalability.

  • Troubleshoot chromatography and filtration challenges.

Data Analysis & Scientific Reporting

  • Analyze and interpret experimental results.

  • Prepare:

    • Technical reports

    • Study summaries

    • Experimental protocols

    • Data packages

    • Scientific presentations

  • Present findings to technical teams and leadership.

Manufacturing & Technical Support

  • Support commercial and development manufacturing operations.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to investigate process issues and implement solutions.

  • Contribute to process monitoring and process control initiatives.

  • Participate in strategic planning for downstream process development programs.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with:

    • Good Documentation Practices (GDP)

    • SOPs

    • Quality systems

    • Laboratory safety procedures

  • Participate in:

    • Deviations

    • CAPAs

    • Root cause investigations

    • Change controls

  • Support continuous improvement activities.


Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in:

  • Biochemistry

  • Biotechnology

  • Biology

  • Biomedical Sciences

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Biochemical Engineering

  • Related Life Science Discipline

Experience

  • 2–6 years of relevant industry experience in downstream process development, purification sciences, MSAT, biologics, vaccines, or bioprocess development.

  • Strong experience with protein purification and chromatography operations.

  • Experience executing laboratory studies independently.

Pay Details: $60.00 to $79.00 per hour
