Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Paralegal to assist attorneys in personal injury defense cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure, local court rules, and experience with discovery, trial preparation, and legal research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Submit and manage open records and FOIA requests.
- Order medical, billing, radiology, pharmaceutical, and employment records, as well as prior insurance claims and workers' compensation records.
- Bates label and redact confidential and privileged materials.
- Draft discovery responses, pleadings, production logs, and pre-trial documents.
- Prepare paid vs. incurred charts and deposition, mediation, or trial binders (physical and digital).
- Review and summarize medical records, deposition transcripts, and ECF filings, identifying next steps.
- Consult and retain experts for counter-affidavits or expert reports addressing injuries or liability.
- Compile, organize, and segregate documents for attorney review and analysis.
- Schedule mediations, depositions, meetings, and experts.
- Calendar scheduling orders and adhere to client guidelines by tracking required deadlines.
- Familiarity with local court rules and case filing procedures to ensure compliance.
- Conduct research to obtain police reports, public data, comprehensive person reports, etc.
- Maintain regular communication with attorneys, clients, and experts to provide case updates.
- Prepare deposition summaries and assist attorneys with trial exhibits and motions.
- Use legal software, including Centerbase and NetDocs, to manage case files and documentation.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in personal injury defense or civil litigation.
- Proficiency in drafting legal documents, summarizing medical records, and managing discovery processes.
- Familiarity with the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and local court rules.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal software programs such as Centerbase and NetDocs.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in managing case files and trial preparation.
- Experience preparing pre-trial motions, exhibits, and trial binders.
- Knowledge of public data websites and tools for conducting comprehensive research.
- Ability to manage ECF filings and understand the procedural steps required post-filing.
