Job Title: CNC Programmer
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Union
Reports To: Machine Shop Supervisor
Pay Range: $25–$40 per hour (based on experience)
Job Summary
The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, writing, and optimizing CNC programs for a variety of equipment, including plasma cutters, 4-axis milling machines, turret punches, and press brakes. This role ensures that all components and assemblies are manufactured with precision, efficiency, and in accordance with the highest quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret blueprints, CAD files, and engineering drawings to create accurate CNC programs.
Set up and calibrate machines and equipment for production.
Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs for:
Hypertherm plasma cutting systems
4-axis milling machines
Turret punches and press brakes
Perform machine setup, verify tool paths, and conduct trial runs.
Troubleshoot programming and machining issues to maintain production efficiency.
Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and machinists to improve processes and reduce waste.
Maintain accurate documentation of programs, setups, and revisions.
Recommend improvements in programming methods, tooling, and machining strategies.
Monitor production equipment and ensure proper operation.
Perform production, inspection, and general machine operation duties as needed.
Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications / Job Knowledge and Skills
Proven experience in CNC programming for plasma cutters, milling machines, and press brakes.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar).
Strong knowledge of G-code and machine-specific programming languages.
Experience with 4-axis and multi-axis machining.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of metal fabrication, machining processes, and material properties.
Experience with machine maintenance and measuring tools (gauges, calipers).
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Team-oriented, self-motivated, and committed to quality and safety.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Regular use of hands and arms for handling and operating equipment.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Close vision required for detailed work.
Pay Details: $25.00 to $40.00 per hour
