About the Role

As our Head Cook, you will oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure all meals meet Ministry of Health nutritional guidelines and individual dietary needs. You’ll prepare fresh, well‑balanced meals, maintain excellent food safety and hygiene standards, and help create a warm, positive dining experience for our residents.

You’ll also support and supervise kitchen staff, work closely with clinical and care teams, and contribute to a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

✔ Prepare and cook high‑quality meals tailored to residents’ dietary needs

✔ Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and infection control standards

✔ Oversee stock management, ordering, and cost‑effective menu planning

✔ Support and mentor kitchen team members

✔ Communicate effectively with staff, residents, families and health professionals

✔ Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and care plans

✔ Participate in kitchen audits, training, and ongoing quality improvement


What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Experience in food services, ideally within aged care or healthcare

• Safe Food Handling Certificate (or equivalent)

• Ability to multi‑task and manage kitchen operations efficiently

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

• Commitment to resident-centered care and service excellence

• High standards of personal hygiene and professional presentation
