Role Overview
*Our client, a leading global financial services organisation, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer / Technical Lead to join their Asset Management Technology team in Galway.
*This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineering leader to play a key role in designing and delivering innovative technology solutions that support retirement and college savings products managing over $950 billion in assets.
*As a Technical Lead, you will combine hands-on software development with technical leadership, guiding a high-performing Agile squad responsible for building modern microservices and user-facing applications. You'll have the opportunity to influence architecture, engineering standards, and best practices while working on highly visible, business-critical platforms.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary Agile development squad.
*Design, develop, and enhance scalable microservices and web applications.
*Drive technical excellence across software engineering practices, including code reviews, testing, automation, and CI/CD.
*Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, Analysts, and Engineering teams to deliver business value.
*Perform root cause analysis, incident triage, and support complex problem resolution.
*Contribute to technical strategy, solution design, and architectural decision-making.
*Promote engineering best practices and establish development standards across the team.
*Support the delivery of innovative technology solutions for portfolio management, modelling, and trading capabilities.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
*Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
*Extensive experience in software design and development.
*Strong hands-on experience with:
oJava
oSpring Boot
oRESTful APIs
oAngular (or similar modern front-end frameworks)
*Experience with:
oOracle SQL and PL/SQL
oMaven
oJenkins
oCI/CD and DevOps practices
Nice to Have
*Exposure to AWS, Kubernetes, or cloud-native technologies.
*Experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka.
*Knowledge of testing frameworks including Karate, Playwright, Storybook, or similar.
*Previous experience within Asset Management, Investment Management, Wealth Management, or Financial Services.
