Contract Power BI Developer - Banking


6‑Month Contract | Inside IR35
Location: Bristol, Birmingham, or Manchester (2 days onsite per week)


My client a leading global Bank are recruiting for a Contract Power BI Developer to support within a central Data & Analytics function.


This role focuses on designing and delivering high quality Power BI datasets, data models, and dashboards that support critical business and regulatory reporting. You will play a key role in strengthening BI governance, improving resilience, and enabling AI‑ready analytics across the organisation.


Key Responsibilities



  • Design, build, and optimise Power BI datasets and semantic data models

  • Develop intuitive, high‑performance dashboards and reports

  • Write and optimise DAX for KPIs, time intelligence, and complex business logic

  • Perform data transformation using Power Query (M) and SQL

  • Improve BI resilience including data quality, refresh reliability, performance, and access controls

  • Document data lineage, business logic, and reporting solutions

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, data engineers, and platform teams

  • Support automation and AI‑enabled BI capabilities where appropriate


Skills & Experience Required



  • Strong hands‑on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query

  • Solid SQL skills and understanding of dimensional data modelling

  • Experience delivering BI solutions within banking, financial services, or other regulated environments

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to translate requirements into scalable BI solutions

  • Comfortable working in an agile, multi‑stakeholder environment


Desirable Experience



  • Banking/ Financial services experience

  • Consultancy background delivering BI or analytics solutions

  • Exposure to automation, AI‑driven reporting, or enterprise BI governance
