Are you a commercially minded Solicitor looking to make a real impact in one of the UK's leading housing organisations?

We are seeking an experienced Company Solicitor (Commercial) to join a high-performing legal team supporting a large and respected housing group based in Middlesbrough. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you'll act as a trusted business partner, providing commercially focused legal advice across a diverse range of contractual, governance and regulatory matters.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams, influencing stakeholders and helping organisations navigate complex legal and commercial challenges.

The Role

As Company Solicitor (Commercial), you'll provide high-quality legal support across the organisation, helping to manage risk while enabling the business to achieve its strategic objectives. You'll work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across multiple business functions, delivering pragmatic and solution-focused legal advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on a broad range of commercial contracts, transactions and business activities.


• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements and legal documentation.


• Support procurement, governance and compliance activities across the organisation.


• Conduct legal research and advise on legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business.


• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to deliver commercially focused legal solutions.


• Support the management of external legal providers and ensure value for money.


• Develop and deliver legal training and awareness sessions to colleagues across the business.


• Assist with legal risk management and provide clear recommendations to support business decision-making.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll be a qualified Solicitor with strong commercial legal experience and the ability to build effective relationships across a complex organisation.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor with demonstrable post-qualification experience.


• Strong background in commercial contracts and commercial law.


• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.


• Ability to analyse complex legal issues and communicate practical solutions.


• Experience drafting contracts, reports and legal documentation.


• Strong understanding of legal risk and compliance frameworks.


• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within social housing, housing associations, local government or the wider public sector.


• Knowledge of housing law and regulatory frameworks affecting Registered Providers.


• Previous experience working in an in-house legal environment.
