Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

The EHS Manager ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and performs essential reporting for operations, including anaerobic digestion, wastewater treatment, and composting. This role collaborates closely with the Operations and Development teams to maintain compliance and prepare the company for future regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Culture and Leadership:
  • Act as an ambassador for Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental programs in alignment with the company’s vision and values.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Compliance and Program Management:
  • Coordinate, implement, and manage quality, safety, health, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.
  • Monitor and advise on future regulatory changes and requirements.
Incident Management:
  • Collaborate with site leadership to review accident and incident investigations.
  • Determine root causes and recommend or implement corrective actions.
Training and Coaching:
  • Coach employees, supervisors, and management on workplace safety, policies, procedures, best practices, and principles.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs.
Performance Metrics and Reporting:
  • Collect and analyze EHSQ performance metrics.
  • Prepare and present reports as required by management.
Health Surveillance:
  • Coordinate employee health surveillance evaluations in line with company policies, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and legal requirements.
System Maintenance and Program Development:
  • Assist in maintaining the Environmental Health Management System (EHMS) and related compliance programs.
  • Develop and implement EHS programs in consultation with all departments and the EHS team.
Audits and Corrective Actions:
  • Conduct and support health, safety, and environmental audits.
  • Implement corrective actions as necessary.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with excellent understanding of safety regulatory requirements; knowledge of industrial hygiene is an asset.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational, process-improvement, and project management abilities.
