Chief Power Engineer - Class II

Adecco is currently hiring a Chief Power Engineer - Class II for a full-time, temporary opportunity with one of our industrial clients based in Kitimat, British Columbia.
In this senior leadership role, you will oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and management of industrial utilities including boilers, steam systems, potable water facilities, and lagoon systems. The ideal candidate is a seasoned Power Engineer with strong leadership skills, a safety-first mindset, and extensive experience operating Class II or higher facilities.
Salary: $85 per hour (limited flexibility)
Location: Kitimat, BC (local candidates only)
Job Type: Full-time | Temporary
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Key Responsibilities:
Ensure safety is the highest priority for all operations and team members
Oversee operation and maintenance of the utilities network, including steam systems, boilers, thermal fluid heaters, natural gas, process and potable water, sewer systems, compressed air, and environmental lagoons
Provide direct supervision and accountability for 4 operating crews totaling 11 Power Engineers
Act as a member of the technical team and serve as the area representative for related engineering projects
Oversee and manage contractor activities within the assigned area
Attend and contribute to regular planning meetings across multiple departments
Manage and forecast operational costs for the assigned sector
Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives
Lead practical problem-solving workshops with team members and skilled trades
Prepare operating reports, SOPs, technical documentation, and maintain accurate records
Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-driven work environment
Qualifications:
Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada
Class II Power Engineering certification (mandatory)
Class III EOCP (Environmental Operators Certification Program) Level III (mandatory)
Minimum of 4 years (7,200 hours) experience at a Class II or higher facility
Minimum of 2 years (3,000 hours) of Direct Responsible Charge at a Class II or higher facility
Minimum of 2 years of applicable post-secondary education or 90 CEUs
Eligibility for Second-Class Power Engineer Certification with Technical Safety BC
Strong knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance of associated equipment
Proven ability to control and operate boilers and auxiliary systems
Experience coaching team members and collaborating across disciplines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems
Pressure Equipment Inspector certification (NBBI) considered an asset
