Staffing & society

What value does the staffing industry contribute to society?

A stepping stone to the labour market

New temporary jobs offer temporary workers experience and income. Serial (i.e. successive) temporary assignments give such workers income security. In many cases, they are stepping stones to a permanent position. Often, these are individuals marginalised by society, such as young people, older workers, or people with disabilities.

Higher employment rates

Temporary jobs are new jobs that support the work-life balance of the individuals concerned and reduce unemployment. In fact, it has been shown that countries with a higher proportion of temporary workers have a lower number of long-term unemployed and a lower unemployment rate in general (Ciett study "More Work Opportunities for More People”, pages 17–19).

Less undeclared work

This shows the role of temporary work as a bridge to the world of employment. It also helps reduce the number of people getting involved in undeclared work and income. Around 80% of jobs created by temporary agency work would not otherwise have existed. Such jobs boost income tax revenues and reduce social costs, as the number of people drawing unemployment benefit falls.
